Kyiv Strikes Russian Energy Sites Amid Conflict

Kyiv intensified attacks on Russian energy sites overnight. Ukrainian drones targeted the Saratov oil refinery in southwestern Russia, sparking a massive fire. This refinery, controlled by Russia’s state oil company Rosneft, has been crucial to Moscow’s war efforts.

Local Russian Governor Roman Busargin acknowledged damage to civilian infrastructure from Ukrainian drones. The Astra news channel reported the incident at the Saratov refinery. These attacks align with Ukraine’s recent focus on Russia’s energy industry to weaken its financial and military power.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on social media that their forces had achieved a notable milestone by targeting the Saratov site, positioned around 700 kilometers from the front line.

Debris from drones ignited a fire at a fuel depot in Russia’s Rostov region near Ukraine’s border, prompting evacuations. Ukrainian forces confirmed their involvement in the Matveev Kurgan strike. Additionally, Ukraine targeted the Lazarevo pumping station in the Kirov region, over 1,200 kilometers from Ukrainian territories.

Kyiv’s Denial of Nuclear Plant Strike

Kyiv rejected allegations of targeting the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Russia’s Rosatom claimed a Ukrainian drone caused an explosion. However, Ukraine dismissed it as propaganda, emphasizing adherence to international humanitarian laws.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported damage outside a turbine building, consistent with a drone strike, but radiation remained normal. The Zaporizhzhia plant, under Russian control near active conflict zones, continues to be a flashpoint.

Zelenskyy’s Concerns Over Abducted Children

In an interview, Zelenskyy accused Russia of treating abducted Ukrainian children as combatants, claiming evidence of their indoctrination against Ukraine. He alleged children faced separation and adoption, and were even traded in prisoner swaps.

The European Union sanctioned officials linked to these abductions, noting identity changes and adoptions. The International Criminal Court charged Russian President Vladimir Putin with war crimes over these actions.

Ongoing Drone Attacks

Ukraine reported intercepting a majority of Russian drones overnight, yet some reached targets. Incidents included the tragic death of a truck driver due to drone impacts in Chernihiv, as well as fires in Dnipro and the Rivne region. Regional authorities confirmed casualties in these areas.
