Knicks Parade Incident Leads to City Fines

A recent incident during the New York Knicks championship parade has led to city fines. Angie Báez, a former JPMorgan Chase executive, returned a Knicks-themed trash can she was accused of taking from a Manhattan street. This happened nearly a week after video footage showed her dumping its contents on the sidewalk and walking away with the container.

The New York City Department of Sanitation reported that Báez returned the litter basket. She faces two summonses: a $75 fine for littering and a $100 fine for hindering sanitation operations. A department spokesperson stated these fines are the maximum permitted for first offenses.

Video of the incident became widely circulated on social media after the June 18 parade, which celebrated the Knicks’ 2026 NBA Finals victory against the San Antonio Spurs. This was their first championship win in 53 years, attracting hundreds of thousands to Lower Manhattan.

Báez was identified as JPMorgan Chase’s Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement. Her LinkedIn profile highlights her diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership, including work at The Infatuation, acquired by Chase in 2021.

Following the incident, JPMorgan Chase confirmed Báez is no longer employed by the company. They declined to offer further details about her departure.

The NYPD revealed it has no complaint report on file related to the incident. The Department of Sanitation noted the cleanup of the parade was substantial, with 75,260 pounds of confetti and litter collected, making the trash from the basket minimal in comparison.

In a lighthearted social media post, the department mentioned their 23,000 litter baskets citywide, and noted that Knicks-themed baskets can be purchased online.
