Jen Psaki, host of MS NOW, expressed concern on Wednesday about the Democratic Party’s difficulties in breaking through the current media environment. She questioned whether her role contributes to President Donald Trump’s dominance in the news cycle, noting that he often becomes the focus, even on her show.

During a discussion with Terry Moran, a former ABC News journalist, Psaki noted Democrats were not leading as anticipated prior to November’s midterm elections, despite Trump’s low approval ratings. Psaki acknowledged high enthusiasm among Democrats, but stated that the party faces challenges in defining themselves beyond being anti-Trump.

“It has taken some time for a lot of the leading Democratic voices to move from just anti-Trump to more than anti-Trump, right? To, ‘We’re not for Trump, but here’s what we’re offering,’” she explained.

Psaki admitted that the media’s focus on Trump’s actions makes it difficult for Democratic messages, such as plans for expanding healthcare benefits for children or pre-K assistance, to gain attention. She questioned her and other journalists’ roles in this dynamic.

“And I realize I have a platform, you have a platform — maybe we’re all at fault for this — but because the things Trump is doing every day are so crazy, it is hard for Democrats to break through,” she added.

Psaki also pointed out challenges in choosing guests for her show outside the usual Trump-related discussions and recognized the importance of sharing more information about Democratic plans.

Terry Moran agreed with Psaki, highlighting the chaotic nature of Trump’s dominance in the media and the challenges faced by journalists in deciding coverage focus.

Earlier, in April, Psaki admitted uncertainty over the focus on invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump, suggesting that some discussions might lack constructiveness.
