James Handy’s Tragic Death and the Charges Against Michael Gledhill

James Handy, a well-known actor recognized for his roles in films such as “Jumanji” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” was found dead outside his home in Tarzana due to stabbing. The incident has led to murder charges against Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy’s girlfriend.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced that Gledhill, aged 44, could face a punishment ranging from 26 years to life in prison if convicted. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman condemned the violent act, stating, “This is not how anyone’s life should end, stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home. The victim, James Handy, deserved to live out his later years enjoying what he had worked so hard for and enjoying it with those he loved and cared about.”

The District Attorney emphasized that the tragic loss of life was unacceptable and that accountability must follow. Handy, aged 81, was found unconscious with a stab wound to his chest. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

According to a press release, Gledhill faces a murder charge with the added allegation of using a deadly weapon—a knife. When police officers responding to the 911 call arrived, Gledhill purportedly approached them, identifying himself as the suspect.

Gledhill reportedly resided in the same house as his mother, who was Handy’s partner. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Van Nuys Jail, with bail set at $2 million.

James Handy appeared in many television and film roles throughout his career, including “False Arrest,” adding to the shock and grief of his untimely death.
