Jake Lang, a far-right influencer previously pardoned by President Trump for his involvement in the January 6 Capitol insurrection, was arrested on a state charge in Dallas, Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety announced the arrest of the 31-year-old Lang on Tuesday. He faces a third-degree felony charge for allegedly making a terroristic threat and was detained at the Dallas County Jail.
Lang’s arrest followed his presence outside the Collin County courthouse during the trial of teenager Karmelo Anthony. A jury found Anthony guilty on Tuesday of the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, committed during a track meet in Frisco, a Dallas suburb, in April 2025. Anthony received a 35-year prison sentence.
Lang reportedly threatened violence against Anthony if the jury did not convict him. Photos showed Lang outside the courthouse holding a sign stating “White Lives Matter” along with a photo of Metcalf. In a video allegedly posted by Lang on his X account, he claimed from jail that he was arrested for expressing a desire for justice if the jury acquitted Anthony. Lang labeled his arrest a misuse of legal power against protesters like himself. He disclosed his bail was set at $1 million.
CBS News was unable to reach Lang’s legal team for comment. This arrest adds to Lang’s legal troubles since his presidential pardon last year. Lang was arrested on a trespassing charge in Frisco, Texas, last week, and in March, he faced charges in St. Paul, Minnesota, for allegedly vandalizing a sculpture calling for the prosecution of ICE. His trial for the Minnesota incident is set for next month.
In 2021, Lang was indicted on 11 federal charges related to the Capitol riot, including assault and civil disorder. He was pardoned by Mr. Trump while awaiting trial, along with others involved in the riot.
Karmelo Anthony’s father, Andrew Anthony, expressed relief over Lang’s arrest but acknowledged ongoing struggles for the family. They have received racially charged death threats following Karmelo’s conviction. Despite the verdict, Anthony’s family maintains he acted in self-defense during the incident. Anthony did not testify during his trial.
The case garnered national attention, attracting daily protests for and against Karmelo Anthony during the trial. Following the fatal incident, Lang had organized a protest supporting Metcalf. The protest flyer featured Metcalf’s image with the slogan “Protect White Americans.”
Jeff Metcalf, Austin Metcalf’s father, appealed to the public not to politicize or add racial tension to his son’s death. In a CBS News Texas interview, he stated forgiveness towards Karmelo Anthony.
