Authorities recently returned to the area near Nancy Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills in Tucson, Arizona. A neighbor reported seeing law enforcement officers searching the brush behind the missing woman’s residence.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, however, stated that no task force investigators revisited the scene. The neighbor, familiar with faces from earlier investigations, noticed officers combing the desert brush.

Nancy Guthrie, mother of TV host Savannah Guthrie, went missing on February 1. She is believed to have been forcibly taken from her home, according to law enforcement.

Retired Pima County Sheriff’s lieutenant Bob Krygier shared potential reasons for the search. Investigators might have received new leads or tips, prompting a return. Shifts in the environment, possibly due to weather, may have exposed new evidence.

“Monsoon season here in Tucson has brought significant water, moving rocks and altering landscapes,” Krygier said.

Floodwaters in the area can rise dramatically, sometimes sweeping away vehicles and even people.

Despite the passing months, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that the investigation remains active. Authorities continue to review numerous video records and follow up on leads. The case is not considered cold.

Ransom notes were released recently to engage the public in identifying the unique linguistic style of the sender. The public is urged to provide any information at 1-800-CALL-FBI or anonymously at 520-88-CRIME.

A reward sum totaling over $1.2 million remains unclaimed for information leading to the resolution of the case.
