Indiana Substitute Teacher Sentenced for Sending Nude Photos to Teen

Summary of Case

An Indiana substitute teacher, Cassidy Carter, has been sentenced to two years in jail for sending nude images to a 14-year-old middle school student. This sentence was delivered after Carter pled guilty to two counts of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury.

Charges and Sentencing

Carter’s initial charge was child solicitation, but this changed after the victim moved away and chose not to participate further in the case. She received two days of credit for time already served. Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens explained the modification in charges.

“The change happened after the victim moved out of the area and wanted no part in the case.”

Details of the Incident

During her time as a substitute teacher at South Dearborn Community School Corporation, Carter sent explicit images to the teen via Snapchat. The communication between them started as a friendship but escalated when Carter, who was 21 at the time, sent nude photos repeatedly.

According to court records, the unidentified student disclosed the situation to a school resource officer in December 2023, which led to the principal being informed. Investigators later found the photos on Carter’s phone, confirming the student’s report.

Online Interaction

Carter allegedly told the student she was in love with him and sent images after showering, mostly late at night. This behavior raised concerns among authorities, leading to her conviction. Prosecutors highlighted the numerous messages and images found during the investigation.
