Indiana Fever Prevail Over Toronto Tempo with Strong Performances from Mitchell and Clark

The Indiana Fever continued their winning streak on Tuesday by overcoming the Toronto Tempo 101-95. Kelsey Mitchell had an impressive start, scoring 16 points in the opening quarter and finishing with 29 points. Her early performance was crucial, as the Fever claimed their fifth consecutive victory.

Alongside Mitchell, Caitlin Clark added 24 points to maintain the Fever’s momentum, despite Mitchell’s absence in the fourth quarter. Together, Mitchell and Clark set a new WNBA milestone, as they both scored at least 20 points in the same game 16 times this season. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter with the Phoenix Mercury in 2008.

Mitchell’s performance also tied her with WNBA star A’ja Wilson for the longest streak of consecutive games with at least 20 points, reaching 20 games in a row. Late in the third quarter, Mitchell scored eight more points in under a minute before exiting the game due to being “overheated,” according to head coach Stephanie White.

Aliyah Boston contributed 16 points, and Sophie Cunningham was perfect from beyond the arc, finishing with 13 points. Indiana led throughout the game and has now won 10 of their last 12 games, while Toronto has suffered 11 straight losses. Marina Mabrey of the Toronto Tempo made back-to-back 3-pointers to reduce the deficit to 97-93 in the fourth quarter, but Toronto could not get any closer.

In attendance during Indiana’s visit to Toronto, fans reacted with mixed emotions when Cunningham, who recently expressed her views on transgender participation in sports, entered the game. Both supportive and opposing reactions were noted when a sign advocating transgender rights appeared on the video screen during a timeout.

The Fever will next play the Dallas Wings on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Toronto Tempo will face the Washington Mystics on Wednesday.
