Hunter Mahan left the PGA Tour in 2021, expressing feelings of burnout from the relentless demands of professional golf. Over the past five years, Mahan shifted focus to family life, coaching high school golf, and has now developed a fresh interest in golf through content creation.
Mahan, who boasts six PGA Tour wins, entered the golf content arena in June. He’s been actively posting videos that document his return to the game, offer instructional insights, and provide other related content. His efforts have grown his Instagram following to over 55,000 followers.
“My wife took some videos,” Mahan shared with OutKick. “She suggested I play more, noticing my interest. So, I recorded a video the next day, unsure of how it would turn out, but excited to give it a try. The positive feedback was overwhelming,” he added.
In April 2021, Mahan competed at the Valspar Championship, showcasing his enduring connection with golf. Alongside his content creation, Mahan is contemplating a return to competitive play via the PGA Tour Champions. This possibility arises as he nears the eligible age for senior circuit competition at 50.
Mahan explained his thought process: “I’m exploring all things right now. There’s the Champions Tour, which could be fun with so many friends approaching 50.” He reminisced fondly about his professional experiences, expressing excitement for future possibilities.
Currently, Mahan is engaging with the golf community, both professionally and non-professionally, seeking the best ways to expand his golf content. He’s engaged in valuable conversations and enjoys learning from the golf community’s response.
With a stellar career including a Top Five rank in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2012, Mahan is well-positioned for automatic entry into the PGA Tour Champions upon reaching the age cutoff. His journey from his first win at the 2007 Travelers Championship to his last victory at The Barclays in 2014 exemplifies his lasting impact on the sport.
Mark Harris, a writer for OutKick, provided this insightful look into Mahan’s next chapter.
