Gregg Allman Documentary ‘The Music of My Soul’ Debuts

Gregg Allman, a legendary figure in the music world, is the subject of a new documentary titled “The Music of My Soul,” which premiered in New York City. The film offers an in-depth look at Allman’s storied career and personal life.

The documentary prominently features Allman’s music, highlighting his contributions to the Allman Brothers Band. Notably, the film concludes with “My Cross to Bear,” a song by country artist Jackson Dean. This track serves as a tribute to Allman’s musical legacy, complementing well-known classics like “Midnight Rider,” “Whipping Post,” and “I’m No Angel.”

“Gregg Allman’s music is woven into the fabric of American culture, and this film captures both the artistry and the humanity behind the legend,” expressed Brian Levy from Subtext. “We’re proud to bring the film to American audiences, providing fans with rare insights and archival material, while introducing Gregg’s legacy to a new generation.”

Subtext, an independent film production and distribution company, holds the North American rights to the documentary.

Michael Lehman, a close friend of Allman, shared his feelings, stating, “I am honored to have worked with Gregg and to have called him my dear friend. This film captures his true essence, and it’s profoundly meaningful to be able to share his remarkable story with the world. Gregg’s music has outlived him and will continue to bring joy to generations.”

The premiere event took place on Tuesday, June 9. Following the New York debut, the film is set to open in Allman’s hometown of Macon, Georgia, on Thursday, June 11.
