Riders on a Green Line train heading to Forest Park faced an evacuation on Saturday afternoon after the train’s wheels became misaligned. The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) reported the issue occurred due to the train proceeding through a track switch that had not completed proper alignment. This situation resulted in the front and rear train wheels aligning on separate track segments.
According to the CTA, this was not a derailment, as all train wheels stayed on the tracks. During this time, buses were used to transport riders along the affected areas, while work crews handled restoring the Green Line to normal operations.
The Oak Park Fire Department was on the scene to ensure a safe evacuation for all affected train passengers. The CTA did not provide specific information on train delays or station closures that might have resulted from the incident.
The Village of Oak Park has yet to provide a comment on the matter.
