Accused of involvement in a murder-for-hire plot with her alleged Bahamian boyfriend, Georgia resident and former beauty queen Lindsay Shiver faces legal challenges. Her attorney claims evidence issues should exempt her from prosecution.

U.S. attorney Craig Shirley argues that Bahamian prosecutors do not have jurisdiction over the alleged conspiracy, which was claimed to occur while Shiver was in the United States.

Lindsay Shiver is not guilty of the crimes alleged against her by the Bahamian Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Shirley said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Shiver and her boyfriend, Adrien Bethel, face accusations of plotting to murder her ex-NFL husband, Robert Shiver. The case hinges on alleged acts in the Bahamas on July 16, 2023. Shirley insists independent evidence shows Shiver was in the U.S. on that date.

Challenging Jurisdiction

Shirley argues that the Bahamian prosecution’s case has a fatal jurisdictional defect because it cannot prove Shiver’s presence in the Bahamas when the alleged conspiracy occurred.

He eschews the notion that this is a mere technicality, asserting it as a fundamental flaw invalidating the charges against her.

The Unveiling of the Alleged Plot

The supposed murder plan was uncovered during an unrelated investigation by Bahamian authorities into a break-in at a bar. Police found WhatsApp messages on a suspect’s phone, with Shiver allegedly instructing to “Kill him,” referring to her husband. Defense claims these texts are misinterpreted.

Shiver, along with Bethel and alleged hitman Faron Newbold Jr., was arrested in July 2023 in the Bahamas, charged under Bahamian law with conspiracy to commit murder. All pleaded not guilty.

Shirley expressed his disappointment over the ongoing prosecution, emphasizing that the Bahamian government should withdraw charges due to the lack of legal grounds.

He clarified that his statement was issued independently and that neither Shiver nor her local attorney, Terrel Butler, knew of his announcement.
