Former President Joseph R. Biden Jr. has announced the release of his memoir, titled “Promise Me, America.” The book is scheduled to hit shelves on November 17, shortly after the midterm elections this year. In a social media video shared on Wednesday, Biden outlined the key topics his book will address.

The memoir will delve into the significant events of Biden’s presidency, exploring his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, economic challenges, and conflicts in Afghanistan and Ukraine. He also intends to discuss efforts to restore democracy following the January 6 attack on the Capitol by supporters of former President Trump.

Biden, now 83, will also detail a decision he describes as crucial during his presidency. He said, “It’s about why I chose to run for re-election and why I chose to step aside. Most of all, it’s about my faith in the promise of America.”

Since leaving office nearly 18 months ago, Biden has mostly stayed away from public life. His wife, Jill Biden, released her memoir last month, and his son, Hunter Biden, has been active on social media and podcasts, defending the family’s legacy.

Biden first mentioned his forthcoming book at a stop during his wife’s book tour, initially stating a September release date. This revelation created some unease among Democrats, who are striving to focus beyond Biden’s presidency as they aim to regain congressional control.

Biden’s decision to step back from a re-election attempt followed a poor debate performance and declining poll numbers. His choice to run again in the face of polls favoring a younger leadership added to Democratic concerns.

The memoir’s title, “Promise Me, America,” alludes to Biden’s 2017 book, “Promise Me, Dad.” His earlier work centered around his bond with his late son, Beau, who passed from brain cancer during Biden’s vice presidency.

In the announcement video, Biden appeared seated in his home office, mentioning his time spent with family and addressing a cancer diagnosis for which he has undergone treatment.
