Former CIA Director Subpoenaed in Grand Conspiracy Investigation

Former CIA Director John Brennan received a subpoena to testify before a grand jury in Florida. This is part of an investigation into a “grand conspiracy” involving Obama- and Biden-era officials. This development occurred on the same day that the lead prosecutor, Joe diGenova, resigned.

The subpoena, authored by diGenova, requested Brennan to appear in Fort Pierce, Florida, on October 15. Brennan’s attorney, Kenneth L. Wainstein, disclosed this in a sworn statement. DiGenova resigned due to growing disagreements among senior department officials about the investigation’s management.

Kurt Olsen, another prosecutor in the case, informed Brennan’s lawyers that Brennan is considered a “subject” in the probe. The investigation is examining whether officials conspired to prevent President Trump from holding office. It also explores issues at Mar-a-Lago and beyond.

Brennan is also a “target” in a separate investigation into whether he lied to Congress about Russian interference in the 2016 election. In legal terms, a “target” is someone believed to be linked to a crime, while a “subject” is within the scope of the investigation but not necessarily linked.

This subpoena news emerged from Brennan’s lawsuit against the Justice Department. Brennan accuses the department of politically motivated investigations and wants a court order to preserve records of top officials.

On Monday, Brennan’s legal team requested a preliminary injunction, arguing the prosecution threat is serious. Wainstein claimed the Justice Department has intentionally hidden potential misconduct, pointing to diGenova’s resignation and the removal of a lead prosecutor in April.

The Justice Department lawyer, Jeremy Newman, argued against the injunction, stating there are no charges or indictments. Judge Jia Cobb did not make an immediate ruling but is considering both sides’ arguments.
