A Shocking Discovery
Jessica Fortner, a Florida mother, was taken aback when she found her 3-week-old daughter, Everleigh, lying on the couch. She was staying with a friend along with her 2-year-old son, Greyson, when an unexpected event unfolded.
Fortner described that day as typical for her since having Everleigh. Her partner was away for work, leaving her to care for the children alone.
Unforeseen Events
Everleigh had been resting in her bassinet, which featured a secure zip-up mesh cover. Greyson was occupied elsewhere, giving Fortner a moment to use the bathroom. When she returned, Everleigh was on the couch.
Fortner soon realized Greyson had unzipped the bassinet and moved Everleigh while she was in the bathroom. The method by which Greyson managed to carry his sister remained unclear.
The Role of the Security Camera
Fortunately, Fortner had a security camera set up in the living room. Reviewing the footage revealed Greyson carrying Everleigh across the room, providing insight into the ordeal.
Security cameras are increasingly popular among parents for monitoring children. A survey by OnePoll for Asurion revealed that 59 percent of U.S. parents have a Wi-Fi-enabled camera at home. Another 76 percent employ smart technology for the safety of their children.
Although the footage gave Fortner visibility of her daughter’s safety, watching Greyson handle Everleigh was nerve-wracking.
“It was very much me holding my breath the entire time I was watching him carry her, hoping he wouldn’t drop her,” Fortner shared.
Reflecting on the Incident
Greyson, who was not very talkative, explained his actions with, “I help Sissy.”
Fortner’s perspective on the video evolved over time. Initially unsettling, she later shared the recording with friends and family, proud yet concerned about Greyson’s actions. The incident remains a memorable family story.
Fortner aims to highlight the unpredictable nature of children through this experience. Despite attentive parenting, children continue to surprise, resulting in memorable family moments.
