Quarterback Fernando Mendoza, picked first overall in this year’s draft, has signed a four-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders worth $57.27 million. The Raiders have an option for a fifth year.

Mendoza was the final draft pick of the Raiders to sign. In a message on the team’s social media, he expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m excited to get this thing signed. I’m excited to be a part of the silver and black. Can’t wait.”

Initially running the third-team offense during organized activities and minicamp, Mendoza is expected to have a more significant role when training camp begins on Wednesday.

Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, who signed a deal with $20 million guaranteed, is entering camp as the No. 1 quarterback. Mendoza’s performance and progression will be closely watched, as the duration Cousins holds the top spot will be a key storyline during the camp and possibly throughout the season.

Mendoza aims to bring his collegiate success to the professional stage. He won the Heisman Trophy and led Indiana to its first national championship in his final college season.
