Federal Bust Uncovers Alleged Firearms Trafficking Ring Connecting Georgia to Chicago Gangs

Federal authorities have dismantled a suspected firearms trafficking operation accused of directing weapons from Georgia to street gangs in Chicago. Some of these firearms were reportedly used in violent criminal activities, including a juvenile murder.

This revelation follows a 23-count federal indictment, unsealed in the Middle District of Georgia, involving five individuals. The investigation was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) under a Homeland Security Task Force. Among those charged, Anthony Edmond and Rafael Enriquez face the gravest accusations, including conspiracy related to firearms and drug trafficking. If convicted, they risk life imprisonment. Three other defendants also face charges of federal firearms conspiracy.

Court documents indicate that Edmond, linked to the Chicago-based Black Disciples gang and associated with the Conservative Vice Lords, played a key role. Prosecutors claim Edmond, under the directives of co-conspirators, made straw purchases of guns from Georgia stores. These weapons were then transported to Chicago for distribution among gang members.

Between 2020 and 2021, Edmond allegedly purchased numerous firearms, including at least 22 in a ten-month span. Some of these were purportedly modified into fully automatic weapons and used in various violent incidents.

Prosecutors further allege Edmond’s involvement in procuring ammunition, extended magazines, and drum magazines, and in test-firing the firearms before their transfer. He reportedly made several trips to deliver these weapons personally to Chicago-based gang members.

Authorities report the recovery of 20 weapons linked to Edmond across three states from 2021 to 2026.

In addition, the Chicago Police Department retrieved a Glock pistol in 2021 from the residence of a juvenile gang member. Forensic examinations linked this weapon to three violent crimes, including a murder in 2021. Investigators claim Edmond purchased the firearm in Georgia, merely 36 days prior to its alleged use in this homicide.
