Illegal Voting Charges in New Jersey

The FBI has charged four noncitizens in New Jersey with illegal voting, highlighting a crackdown by FBI Director Kash Patel on such activities. Amidst these charges, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has expressed support for anti-ICE measures. These include prohibiting police cooperation with federal immigration enforcement and permitting lawsuits against federal agents.

Australians Charged in Louisiana Elections

An Australian who is a lawful permanent resident was detained for allegedly casting illegal votes in federal elections in Louisiana. Denise Nataly Migliore, 51, faces charges for making false statements on a voter registration application and voting illegally, as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Migliore’s misconduct was supposedly committed during the federal elections in October 2022 and October 2024. She allegedly made false assertions of U.S. citizenship to register.

Arrest and Charges

DHS has issued a directive to deport immigrants who vote unlawfully in U.S. elections. Following this, Migliore was arrested at a federal courthouse in New Orleans on July 1 by Homeland Security Investigations and ICE officers.

“This Australian faces federal charges for posing as a U.S. citizen and voting illegally,” stated acting Assistant DHS Secretary of Public Affairs, Lauren Bis. Her detention results from concerted efforts by ICE and federal partners.

Consequences and Legal Proceedings

Migliore potentially faces severe legal repercussions, including up to five years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee. If found guilty, she will also undergo three years of supervised release.
