MIAMI — Authorities have confirmed that the five individuals who lost their lives when an Amazon cargo jet ran off the runway at Miami International Airport were inside a van used for accessing aircraft for cleaning purposes. The jet crashed on Sunday afternoon while attempting to land, overrunning the runway. It collided with the van on airport grounds, broke through a fence, and continued to a nearby street where it destroyed an SUV.
Additional details reveal that five others sustained injuries in the accident. The pilot and co-pilot have since been discharged from the hospital, according to Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. Currently, two people remain in critical condition, while a third individual is stable. Cordero-Stutz further stated that the deceased individuals’ ages ranged from 47 to 75.
