Fox News Digital has reported that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a subpoena to Hasan Piker and CodePink co-founder Susan Medea Benjamin for potentially violating sanctions with the Communist Party of Cuba during their trips to Cuba in March. Piker and Benjamin have defended their missions as humanitarian efforts to aid the Cuban people.
During a recent livestream titled “FEDS ARE AFTER ME,” Piker suggested that federal investigators might be targeting Singham and his supported organizations, including CodePink, ANSWER Coalition, and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, for their political activities. These groups have organized major anti-U.S. protests over the past decade.
Piker believes federal attempts are underway to suppress Singham’s activism, financed by his wealth. A Fox News Digital investigation revealed that since selling his company, Thoughtworks, for $785 million in 2017, Singham has put $278 million into six nonprofits. These organizations, in turn, support many entities globally, often aligned with Chinese Communist Party messaging.
Prominent congressional committees are examining Singham’s funding network, scrutinizing potential foreign influence and nonprofit compliance. Piker’s characterization of Singham’s role as financing political movements in the U.S. may intensify investigative efforts.
Piker, known for his controversial commentary and lavish lifestyle, has monetized his content on Twitch. He faces criticism for his perceived hypocrisy by living lavishly while espousing Marxist ideals. The subpoena against Piker prompted reactions in political and activist circles, with some defending him and others mocking his turn against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
