Fan Disrupts Mets vs. Yankees Game with Palestinian Flag

On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a fan interrupted a game between the Mets and Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The incident occurred at 9:11 p.m. ET when the fan ran onto the field waving a Palestinian flag. The individual entered the field from the left-field seats and sprinted towards center field, momentarily eluding police officers and stadium security before being detained.

Security personnel quickly escorted the fan off the field, beyond the center-field wall. Fans seated above the Mets’ bullpen responded by throwing beer cans and booing him out of the stadium. The crowd then erupted with chants of “USA.”

The Yankees did not comment on the incident. The delay happened during a critical moment in the game, in the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and Francisco Lindor facing a 3-2 count with two outs, Yankees pitcher Headrick briefly warmed up before resuming play. He retired Lindor with a line drive, ending the inning.

Pregame ceremonies honored victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Several Yankees from the 2001 team, including Derek Jeter, participated in the event.

The current conflict in Gaza stems from the Oct. 7, 2023, assault on southern Israel by Hamas, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths. According to Gaza’s health ministry, over 70,000 Palestinians have been killed since then. Although a truce was brokered by the Trump administration over 10 months ago, more than 1,300 people have reportedly died in Israeli attacks post-cease-fire.
