Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom was escorted out of Wintrust Arena during a WNBA game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever. The ejection followed a heated exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud. This incident happened during the third quarter, with Indiana holding an 81-75 lead. Freedom, who was seated courtside, engaged in a shouting match with Cloud.
Security intervened when Freedom stepped toward the court, leading to boos from the audience as the 11-year NBA veteran was removed. Later, Freedom addressed the incident on social media, expressing his displeasure about being removed for supporting women, and criticized other women for opposing him.
I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!
Cloud had previously criticized America, prompting Freedom to suggest that she experience countries like China, Russia, or Turkey. He wore a shirt with the definition of “woman,” which seemed to provoke Cloud further.
After the game, Sky players Azura Stevens and Aicha Coulibaly were queried about the incident. Stevens dismissed the topic, stating that they were focused on the game, and declined further questions about Kanter Freedom.
Before his ejection, Freedom had shared a photo outside a restroom during halftime, referencing the rules of restroom usage in the WNBA. His day began with a tense exchange outside the arena with progressive fans, leading to the intervention of security as fans confronted the former NBA player.
Freedom has faced criticism for advocating for female athletes and was involved in activities with Sophie Cunningham supporters before the game started. Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever expressed reactions to the altercation as the Fever defeated Chicago 113-90.
The WNBA’s response to Freedom’s future attendance remains uncertain.
