Egg Price Drop Despite Ongoing Farmer Struggles

Egg prices have decreased significantly, yet farmers like Marty Thomas in Matteson, Illinois, still face financial difficulties. The increased egg supply has led to lower consumer prices, but production costs for farmers remain high. This has forced them to find new ways to manage their operations.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a major distribution of free eggs as part of a settlement. More than 1.7 million eggs have already been sent to Texas food banks. Another 5.3 million eggs are expected to arrive soon. This distribution is part of an antitrust settlement with three large egg producers—Cal-Maine Foods, Centrum/Versova, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch. The agreement follows allegations of price inflation between 2022 and 2025.

Under the settlement, the companies will donate over 7 million eggs to Texas food banks and pay $3.3 million to several states. Paxton expressed commitment to helping Texans access food, emphasizing efforts to reduce food costs for struggling families.

The distribution effort is in collaboration with Feeding Texas. Seventeen food banks across the state are involved. The Houston Food Bank will receive the largest share of 1,544,400 eggs, with significant allocations also going to the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Other participating food banks span across major Texas cities, including Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso. It’s not clear when exactly the eggs will be distributed or if eligibility criteria will differ by location.

A representative from Feeding Texas has not provided details about the distribution schedule or process. Fox News Digital reached out to Cal-Maine Foods for further comments but has yet to receive a response.
