Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper faced legal trouble again when he was arrested for the second time in a week. The arrest occurred on Thursday night after Cooper allegedly violated a protection order. This order stemmed from a previous domestic violence charge filed against him and his girlfriend.

Both Cooper and his partner were arrested last Friday. Douglas County jail records indicate they were both held on suspicion of two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief. According to court records shared by the New York Post, the order included additional charges, such as felony strangulation.

The Denver Broncos responded to Cooper’s latest arrest with disappointment, stating they are reviewing the situation. The arrest affidavit explains that the couple’s confrontation started at Cooper’s residence. It escalated when the woman accused Cooper of being unfaithful, leading to a struggle over his phone, which she had thrown against a wall initially. After regaining control of his phone, Cooper requested that his girlfriend leave his home, threatening to damage her cell phone. Despite his request, the woman remained, prompting Cooper to break her iPhone screen.

On Monday, Cooper pleaded not guilty to the charges. The NFL player, at 28, has been with the Broncos throughout his five-season career, having been drafted from Ohio State in the seventh round. Last season, Cooper was a standout in the Broncos’ defense, with 50 tackles and eight sacks over 17 games. His career stats include 81 games with 266 tackles and 31.5 sacks.

In November 2024, Cooper secured a four-year contract extension worth $60 million with Denver. His arrest on Thursday marks another challenging moment in his professional journey as he deals with serious allegations.
