Danielle Fishel Embraces Weightlifting Over Cardio

Danielle Fishel has shared her fitness secret for looking and feeling her best. Known for her role as Topanga Lawrence in the 1990s series “Boy Meets World,” Fishel explained how weightlifting has transformed her fitness routine.

At the Tribeca Festival for her project “Doc Meets World,” Fishel said, “I don’t do cardio anymore. I like to walk for 20 to 30 minutes after every meal, but I lift weights, and it has made all the difference.” This shift aligns with a growing trend where more people switch from traditional cardio sessions to strength training to build muscle and support overall health.

Fishel, now 45, is part of a move toward embracing weightlifting over cardio among celebrities. Her insights on fitness came during an appearance at the festival where she reunited with her former “Boy Meets World” cast members Rider Strong and Will Friedle. They reflected on growing up in the spotlight and their experiences working together.

Rider Strong praised Ben Savage, his co-star, for being an exceptional talent and mentor during their time on the show. “My friendship with Ben? Oh, we were just amazing co-workers,” Strong said, acknowledging the significant bond they formed.

“Boy Meets World” aired on ABC from 1993 to 2000, spanning seven seasons. Strong highlighted their enduring bond, attributing much of his early learning as an actor to Savage’s guidance.

Will Friedle, who portrayed Eric Matthews, discussed the challenges of child stardom. He noted that at times, leaving Hollywood seemed possible. Yet, he emphasized the innate pull of entertainment. “There’s times I think we were all at one point considering running away from Hollywood,” Friedle stated. “But like anything else, I’ve always said that true entertainers are the people that can’t do anything else. You might do something else, but you’re always pulled back. That’s where your heart lies.”

Despite reflecting on difficult moments, Friedle concluded by expressing his enduring passion for entertaining. “The love of needing to entertain,” he said, is what ultimately keeps him in the business.
