The Dallas Wings are establishing themselves as formidable contenders in the WNBA. Their success is largely attributed to their dynamic duo of back-to-back No. 1 draft picks, Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd.

On Sunday, the Wings demonstrated their prowess with a decisive 89-76 victory against the new team, the Toronto Tempo. Bueckers led the team with an impressive 22 points, seven assists, and three rebounds.

Fudd also made significant contributions by scoring 17 points. She added three rebounds, three steals, and two assists to her performance, alongside one critical block. This block marked her 20th career block, setting a new record for the fastest achievement of this milestone in WNBA history, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

Despite her rapid personal achievements, Fudd appears focused on the team’s success. The Wings’ current 13-8 record reflects their efforts.

In her rookie season, Fudd averages 13.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and one block per game. These commendable numbers come despite her role as a bench player, rather than an immediate starter for the Dallas offense.

Fudd was not selected for the WNBA All-Star Game. However, her teammates Paige Bueckers and Jessica Sheppard received the honor. Olivia Miles, another first-year player, was voted into a starting position. She averages 18.5 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game. Her numbers benefit from the temporary absence of Minnesota Lynx’s star Napheesa Collier, who is expected to return soon.

The Wings’ decision to draft Fudd first likely considered her successful background at UConn, a school known for producing WNBA superstars. Coached by Geno Auriemma alongside Bueckers, Fudd contributes solid skills and strong chemistry to the team.
