Cuban Immigrant Faces Charges for Child Abuse and Arson

A Cuban immigrant, Meliza Campos-Sanchez, is facing serious charges after authorities alleged she poured hot wax on one of her daughters and ignited a fire in her Miami residence. These charges include two counts of child neglect, one count of child abuse, and an arson charge related to an incident on August 16.

Campos-Sanchez is set to undergo a court-ordered mental competency evaluation. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a deliberate fire within a Miami home on Sunday, according to a criminal complaint accessed by Fox News Digital.

Investigators found videos uploaded by Campos, a social media influencer with a large following, showing her pouring melted candle wax on herself and at least one of her daughters. In another video, she was seen singing and dancing before lighting clothing on fire using a lighter.

A recent ICE operation in Georgia captured over 700 illegal aliens, including sex offenders and child abusers.

The complaint specifies that the daughters are 3 and 6 years old and were allegedly told by Campos “not to be scared” prior to applying hot candle wax to one daughter’s hand. Fortunately, the child did not sustain visible injuries.

Moreover, one daughter informed an arson-squad detective that she and her sister observed their mother burning a shirt and creating a fire while they were present inside the house.

Following Campos’ arrest, the immigration authorities placed a detainer at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, requesting local officials to notify federal immigration before her release, enabling ICE to possibly take her into custody.

Campos entered the U.S. unlawfully through Florida in May 2022. In the wake of her arrest, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson criticized the open-border policies of the current administration, emphasizing they allowed criminals like Campos to enter the country.

During her preliminary court appearance, Campos’ defense asked for a competency evaluation, leading the judge to mandate assessments from two Spanish-speaking doctors.

The mental health evaluation mandate followed statements from Campos’ husband regarding his previous attempts to seek help and contact law enforcement due to concerns over her mental state, alongside relatives mentioning she had discontinued her prescribed medications.

Fox News Digital has contacted Campos’ court-assigned lawyer for further comments.
