Cuban-American Lawmakers Push for Action Amid Cuba’s Crisis

Cuban-American legislators voiced concerns on Saturday regarding Cuba’s growing humanitarian and economic issues, warning that the island might be nearing a critical breaking point. They urged the Trump administration to capitalize on this chance to increase pressure on Havana and impact the future of the Western Hemisphere.

“We have never been this close to seeing a change and this regime actually being ousted,” said Rep. Carlos Gimenez from Florida, addressing the Cuban population. “There’s a lot of hope in Cuba right now. We have the right president, we have the right Secretary of State,” he emphasized, mentioning the efforts by three Cuban American representatives and a narrow majority in the House of Representatives supporting their cause. “It’s gonna happen,” Gimenez expressed, offering optimism.

Florida Representatives Carlos Gimenez, Maria Salazar, and Mario Diaz-Balart participated in an interview on Fox News’ “My View with Lara Trump.” They discussed widespread blackouts, energy shortages, and civil unrest, categorizing Cuba not just as a humanitarian concern but also as a national security risk due to its proximity, only 90 miles from the U.S. coast.

Maria Salazar noted, “We’re only 90 miles away from Miami, with Western values that were lost 65 years ago, but now President Trump is bringing back that possibility to the Cubans.”

During a protest in Miami against the Cuban government, supporters of President Trump displayed signs and Cuban flags. Gimenez, Salazar, and Diaz-Balart emphasized America’s readiness to address any potential threats from Cuba, stating that President Trump is aware and proactive in dealing with such issues.

Diaz-Balart referred to Cuba’s proximity as a threat to U.S. security, claiming that the president will not permit a nearby regime to endanger the U.S. with drones or harbor fugitives. He reminded that Americans and a U.S. resident had previously been murdered by the Cuban regime, a fact not overlooked by the current administration.

Salazar reiterated that the White House is focused on the Western Hemisphere, pointing out actions taken against Maduro in Venezuela, which she described as a “mothership of evil.” She stressed that the consequences of Cuba’s interference in Venezuela are being addressed and will conclude soon.
