Lawyers for Tyler Robinson, accused in the murder of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, aim to prevent video footage of the incident from being shown in an upcoming court hearing. The hearing will address their request to disqualify prosecutors alleged to have a conflict of interest in the case.

A separate legal matter concluded with a settlement involving the University of Tennessee. Former professor Tamar Shirinian will receive $1.9 million after claiming the university violated her constitutional rights. This followed moves by university officials to discipline her over social media remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Shirinian had referred to Kirk as a “disgusting psychopath” online, further stating, “The world is better off without him.” Following these comments, she faced administrative leave and subsequent termination on February 11.

University of Tennessee Chancellor Donde Plowman cited that Shirinian’s comments celebrated the violent act on a college campus and belied empathy for Kirk’s grieving family. Despite later apologizing for what she described as “insensitive” remarks, Shirinian will not return to her academic post.

Shirinian’s attorney, Robb Bigelow, noted their satisfaction with the settlement, highlighting the difficulties of litigation and appreciation for the resolution. The university, however, remained reticent beyond statements made during a board meeting.
