Conor McGregor’s Road to Recovery and Potential Return to UFC

Following a severe knee injury sustained during his UFC 329 match against Max Halloway, Conor McGregor is looking at a challenging journey back to the Octagon. The 38-year-old fighter has promised his fans that he will return after undergoing surgery on his right knee. He aims to complete the final match of his UFC contract.

If this upcoming fight marks McGregor’s farewell, many fighters will likely compete for the opportunity to face him. Possible opponents include Halloway, Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, Justin Gaethje, and Ilia Topuria. Each bout would undoubtedly attract significant attention. However, one opponent McGregor might prioritize is Dustin Poirier.

“Whenever he is healed up, hit me up, Conor. I’ll come back and whip you again. I’d come back to whip him again — at 170.”

Dustin Poirier, who retired after his UFC 318 match with Halloway for the ‘BMF’ title, expressed interest in facing McGregor once more for a potential fourth fight. Poirier’s statement via MMA Junkie reveals his willingness to step out of retirement for another showdown with McGregor.

Their history includes three prior encounters. McGregor emerged victorious in their first meeting at UFC 178 in 2014 with a first-round TKO in under two minutes. Poirier claimed the subsequent two wins, both by TKO. Their third confrontation concluded abruptly when McGregor broke his left leg at the end of Round 1.

Poirier’s second victory over McGregor not only ended in a decisive fashion but also earned him the Performance of the Night, elevating him into the lightweight title contention.
