Concerns Rise Among Democrats Over Graham Platner’s Senate Campaign

Representative Ro Khanna expressed belief in the account of a woman accusing Graham Platner of physically threatening behavior. He advised Platner’s campaign to refrain from criticizing her.

Several congressional Democrats voiced concerns about Platner, prospective Senate nominee in Maine, upon the revelation of multiple women describing volatile and toxic relationships with him. Reactions emerged over the weekend through various platforms including news shows and social media, reflecting a party contending with Platner’s campaign amidst Tuesday’s primary election. Ro Khanna, Platner’s supporter, acknowledged the allegations, urging the campaign not to criticize the accuser.

The New York Times reported that three women claiming to have dated Platner described volatility and demeaning behavior toward women. These revelations came after reports on May 30 depicting Platner’s exchange of sexual messages outside his marriage recently.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia commented on the allegations, describing them as beyond disturbing but deferred to Maine voters for judgment. Speaking on ‘Fox News Sunday,’ Warner noted the necessity for voters to assess the truth of the allegations and their impact on Platner’s candidacy.

“If these allegations are true, they’re very troubling,” Warner stated. “But I don’t know if they are true or not. I think, frankly, the people in Maine ought to decide that.”

Platner’s campaign maintains strong denial of any physical intimidation claims. A Marine Corps veteran, Platner shared experiences of PTSD and self-medication with alcohol, identifying these as elements of a dark period preceding personal transformation. He dismissed the sexual messaging reports as distractions from critical voter concerns.
