Clark and Bueckers’ On-Court Rivalry Heats Up During Game

Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers added another memorable moment to their competitive rivalry on Thursday night. The encounter took place during the first half of Dallas’s 91-85 win over Indiana.

As the second quarter neared its end, Clark dribbled the ball while Bueckers guarded her tightly. Bueckers then attempted to stop the play by wrapping up Clark’s left arm. It was strategic since Dallas still had a foul to give. Clark showed frustration at Bueckers’ aggressive defense and reacted by throwing the ball forcefully, sending it near Bueckers’ head as the teams departed to the locker rooms.

A brief exchange occurred between the star players, but the audio from the broadcast did not capture their words.

Bueckers received a common foul for the play. The tension lingered into the second half; she was later given a technical foul after disputing with an official about a separate foul on Clark in the third quarter.

In scoring, Kelsey Mitchell led Indiana with 37 points, while Clark contributed with a team-leading nine assists. Dallas’s Arike Ogunbowale scored 32 points, and Bueckers added eight assists to her performance.

In their previous meeting, both Clark and Bueckers scored 29 points, although Indiana secured a 98-87 victory. Following the game, Clark acknowledged Bueckers’ skills, saying, “She’s an incredible player. She makes it difficult for us defensively; she’s smooth and finds the open teammate. She’s a tough guard.”
