Investigations Initiated After Viral Video

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) have launched investigations due to a video that gained attention online. This video allegedly shows a CPD sergeant, off-duty, verbally threatening teenagers and their families on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

Details of the Incident

The video was shared on social media earlier this week, revealing a confrontational encounter with Sgt. Jeremy Sikorski. He is seen confronting a group of teens, questioning if they were bullying younger kids. The teens maintain they were not, asserting avoidance due to inappropriate remarks directed at teen girls by the younger children.

Sgt. Sikorski responded with aggressive language. He threatened physical violence against one of the teenage boys and their parents, asserting, “I’ll knock your (expletive) dad out and I’ll knock your ass out after.” Despite a nearby woman’s pleas for calm, Sikorski continued his tirade and inadvertently knocked the phone of a teenage girl recording the situation.

Police Response and Actions

Following the video’s circulation, CPD has stripped Sgt. Sikorski of his police powers, reassigning him to the Alternate Response Section. COPA has also initiated a separate investigation. Both agencies are actively reviewing the incident.

His record from the city’s Office of Inspector General indicates 22 prior allegations of misconduct during his law enforcement career, with two allegations substantiated.
