Chicago Bears Face Quarterback Challenges Amid Injuries

The Chicago Bears received some relief with the news about Caleb Williams’ hamstring injury. Despite this positive update, the franchise’s quarterback will still miss some playing time. In addition, Tyson Bagent, who is in the NFL’s concussion protocol, may not be available for Week 3’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football.”

Due to these circumstances, the Bears might need to rely on their third-string quarterback, Case Keenum. Keenum, who has substantial NFL experience, would be making his first start since 2023 if called upon. He has played in 80 games, starting in 66, but hasn’t been in an NFL game since his time with the Houston Texans in 2023.

Bagent, an undrafted quarterback who gained recognition during his rookie season in 2023 with a starting record of 2-2, has been the second option since Williams’ drafting in 2024. Bagent entered the game in the Bears’ recent 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after Williams’ injury and finished 5-for-9 passing with 54 yards. It remains uncertain when Bagent sustained the concussion. However, it might have occurred on the last play when he faced a sack and hit the ground hard.

Fans await head coach Ben Johnson’s official decision on Williams’ return. Johnson acknowledged Williams’ condition as day-to-day. “He’s currently exploring all possible treatments to get back on track,” Johnson said to reporters, emphasizing the team’s commitment to getting Williams ready.

If Bagent can’t clear the protocol in time, Keenum could potentially quarterback his eighth NFL team. Although Keenum has not been in a starting role in recent years, his experience could serve the Bears well in their upcoming primetime match against an NFC opponent.
