Charges Filed in Alleged Penn State Cocaine Distribution Ring

Authorities have charged more than a dozen individuals linked to an alleged cocaine distribution network involving Penn State students and two off-campus fraternities.

Charges and Involvement

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that 14 people face charges related to the operation. The allegations suggest involvement of students and fraternity members. Of the charged individuals, 13 were students at Penn State University in 2023 and 2024. The 14th person, the father of a student, faces charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing the investigation.

Agostino Abbatiello and Thomas Robinson are accused of being central suppliers in the network. The suspects allegedly traveled to Philadelphia and New York to obtain significant amounts of cocaine.

Fraternities’ Role

Members of the Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternities allegedly participated by cutting and packaging the drugs within their fraternity houses. These activities were reportedly conducted off-campus.

Additional Charges and Suspects

Besides Abbatiello and Robinson, two members, Mohammed Hurabi and Lars Zeepvat, are charged with felony corrupt organizations, conspiracy, illegal dealings, and related offenses.

Another suspect, Robert Zanolla, faces felony conspiracy, criminal use of a communication facility, and related misdemeanor charges. Eight additional student-aged individuals are charged with misdemeanors for drug possession and paraphernalia. These include Liam Smith, Michael Brogno, Kaden Howe, Connor Hurleigh, Seth Beardsley, Kyle Ridpath, Daniel Price, and Charles Wiseman.

Institutional Response

Penn State University expressed alarm over the allegations and confirmed the interim suspension of the Delta Upsilon fraternity as investigations proceed. Sigma Chi, not recognized by the university, operates independently of its oversight.

Andrea Dowhower, vice president for Student Affairs, emphasized a commitment to cooperation with law enforcement and reiterated the importance of student safety and education. Delta Upsilon International Fraternity has expelled, suspended, or accepted resignations from involved individuals.
