A woman in California has confessed to the murder of her wife, Rebecca “Becky” Marodi, a dedicated fire captain, following a fatal stabbing incident last year. This marks the second time Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi, 54, faced charges related to a stabbing death.

Yolanda recently admitted guilt to second-degree murder in the death of her 49-year-old spouse. The tragic event unfolded in February 2025 at the couple’s Ramona residence.

Previous Conviction for a Serious Felony

Marodi’s recent admission of guilt also includes acknowledging a prior serious felony. In 2000, she was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for the stabbing death of her then-husband, James Joseph Olejniczak. She had been released in 2013 after serving time for that crime.

Incident Details

Rebecca, a respected veteran with Cal Fire, succumbed to multiple stab wounds in the neck, chest, and back. Surveillance footage reportedly captured her desperate escape attempt, with Yolanda in pursuit. Tragically, Rebecca was pronounced dead at the scene.

International Escape and Arrest

Following the incident, Yolanda left for Mexico, evading authorities for over a month. Her arrest occurred at a Mexicali hotel near the U.S. border, and she was subsequently returned to the United States.

Change of Plea

Initially, Yolanda pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. However, she has now changed her plea to guilty for second-degree murder. A sentencing hearing is set for September 2.

Rebecca Marodi dedicated over 30 years to Cal Fire, with significant service in Riverside County. Her colleagues remember her impactful contribution to firefighting, mentorship, and community service.
