Bison Attack Leaves Man Hospitalized in Yellowstone

A man was hospitalized after a bull bison attacked and tossed him approximately eight feet into the air. The incident occurred near a campground at Yellowstone National Park.

Incident Details

The victim, Carl Isom-McDaniel, is a community leader from Washington State. He suffered multiple broken bones from the attack. The unfortunate event took place around 8:30 PM at Bridge Bay Campground, located in the southeastern area of the park in Wyoming.

At the time of the attack, the campground was bustling with tourists. The bison, visibly agitated, was moving through the area, targeting various groups of campers. A video captured by Mike MacLeod, a photographer from Bozeman, Montana, documented the bison’s aggressive behavior.

Behavior of the Bison

The bison’s behavior is likely linked to it being the start of the mating season, as such behavior can be attributed to increased testosterone levels. Initially, the animal charged at a group of teenagers who quickly scattered before continuing its rampage.

The park’s proximity to nature and wildlife allows for encounters that can be dangerous if precautions aren’t followed. Visitors are reminded to maintain a safe distance from wildlife to prevent such incidents.
