David Hanson, a chiropractor based in Batavia, has confessed to illicitly recording over 180 patients, including children, and producing child sexual abuse material. Hanson, aged 44, previously resided on the 1100 block of Challenge Road in Batavia. He admitted to felony charges related to producing and distributing child sexual abuse material involving minors under 13 years old.
Following the guilty plea, victims addressed the media outside the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles. A woman, identified only as Jenna, spoke about her experience, mentioning that she and her daughter were patients of Hanson for three years. “We trusted Dave Hanson with our care, expecting privacy and dignity from a health professional,” Jenna stated, reflecting on the betrayal of that trust.
The Daily Herald honored victims’ requests by not disclosing their full names. Jenna emphasized that no patient should be seen as “an object to be consumed or a commodity to be shared.” She highlighted the distress parents endure explaining such offenses to their children.
Another victim shared her newfound anxiety and sense of vulnerability when visiting medical facilities or using fitting rooms, fearing potential surveillance. More than 64 victims have initiated 11 lawsuits against Hanson since his arrest in November 2025. Hanson faces 76 charges related to child sexual abuse material and unauthorized video recording.
Authorities allege Hanson recorded patients at his clinic during light therapy sessions. These recordings were purportedly shared via messaging platforms such as Session, SimpleX, and Discord. Batavia police launched their investigation in September 2025 after receiving information about Hanson possessing child sexual abuse material. Searches of Hanson’s home, clinic, and devices uncovered concealed cameras in vents and fans, as noted in various lawsuits.
Prosecutors say recordings date from 2016 to Hanson’s arrest on November 5, 2025. Hanson Family Chiropractic was located at 1928 W. Wilson St. in Batavia.
Elizabeth Fegan, representing some victims, suspects Hanson sold these recordings. If proven, plaintiffs may pursue other defendants, including financial entities involved in transactions. The property’s owners are also being sued, accused of negligence concerning the hidden cameras.
Attorney Grant Dixon commended Kane County prosecutors but acknowledged the ongoing quest for justice. He expressed concern over the possibility of more victims yet to come forward, asserting Hanson’s actions extend beyond the current scope of charges.
Hanson has been a licensed chiropractor in Illinois since 2013, but his license is currently suspended pending the criminal trial’s conclusion. Scheduled for sentencing on November 10, Hanson faces a prison term ranging from 12 to 60 years. He must also register as a sex offender for life.
