A man was arrested at President Donald Trump’s California golf course on August 2, allegedly carrying information about First Lady Melania Trump’s schedule and the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) personnel. This was reported during a Los Angeles County court hearing.
Jeanine John Taele, 38, had over 200 pages of documents, including First Lady and USSS schedules, as reported by The Associated Press. The New York Post added that Taele possessed notebooks with sketches of Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles and lists of USSS schedules and personnel details.
Taele pleaded not guilty to four charges related to his arrest. These writings included guides on living “off the grid,” according to sources.
“This case is alarming in this day and age,” said Los Angeles County Judge John Lonergan Jr., highlighting the concern over political violence.
The judge suspended the criminal proceedings after a pretrial evaluation found Taele mentally unfit for trial. The case was moved to a mental health court.
Authorities arrested Taele after federal agents noticed him at the golf club acting suspiciously. Upon searching him, police found a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammo. In his vehicle, they uncovered a loaded pistol and more ammunition. Upon searching his home, investigators found an illegally modified rifle, firearms, body armor, and other questionable items.
Taele claimed to be a State Department security detail, but investigations continue. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and other agencies are involved in the investigation.
Taele, a former Marine, remains in custody until a September hearing at Hollywood Mental Health Court. His public defender, A.J. Bayne, urged caution in judging his motives, noting Taele’s military service and family support.
The USSS has stated it investigates any perceived intelligence concerns seriously but refused specific comments on this case.
President Trump mentioned the arrest, calling himself a “consequential president” on Fox News.
