Despite celebrating his 26th birthday, Wrobleski struck out five over two innings.
The American League’s win marks their 18th in the last 23 games, improving their overall lead to 49-45-2. The National League managed hits from Juan Soto in the fourth, Pete Crow-Armstrong in the eighth, and Otto Lopez in the ninth, but failed to move any runners past first base.
The game’s pitchers combined for 27 strikeouts, with the American League accounting for 15. Cease’s impressive performance in the first inning joins a select group of pitchers who struck out three batters to start an All-Star Game, including legends like Carl Hubbell, Warren Spahn, and Jim Palmer.
Parker Messick, Michael Wacha, Joe Ryan, Nick Martinez, Cade Smith, Drew Rasmussen, Jacob Latz, Louis Varland, Aroldis Chapman, and Bryan Baker closed the first All-Star shutout since 2013. Missing star power such as Jacob Misoriowski, Paul Skenes, and Shohei Ohtani was notable, as was the low number of pitches reaching 100 mph.
Cristopher Sánchez endured a challenging 34-pitch first inning, allowing three hits and two walks. He noted the initial difficulty in settling into the game through an interpreter.
Mike Trout, a frequent All-Star participant, went hitless in three at-bats, marking his return since 2019 due to injuries. For the Dodgers, Max Muncy and Andy Pages were unable to reach base, and Freddie Freeman managed a walk in one appearance.
An incident occurred when Junior Caminero of Tampa Bay was struck on the hand by a pitch from St. Louis’s Riley O’Brien and had to leave the game early. Fortunately, X-rays confirmed no fractures.

A spectacle of fireworks accompanied a tribute video of Ray Charles’s performance of “America the Beautiful” from the 2001 World Series.
The selection of Philadelphia as this year’s All-Star Game location, announced in 2019, aligns with the U.S.’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The city previously hosted such events at both Veterans Stadium and Shibe Park. Next year, the All-Star Game will take place at Wrigley Field in Chicago for the first time since 1990.
