AI Industry Leaders Meet with President Trump and House Speaker Johnson

President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are set to meet with AI industry leaders at the White House. The meeting comes as lawmakers face increasing pressure to address the rapid development of artificial intelligence, which some warn poses significant threats. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, will be among those in attendance, along with executives from OpenAI, Google, Palantir, Meta, and Nvidia.

Johnson emphasized the need to find a balance between regulation and innovation. He stated, “Instead of overwhelming this with unnecessary regulations that could endanger national security, we aim to support continued innovation.” His remarks highlight the ongoing debate on how to regulate AI effectively.

President Trump had previously discussed AI regulations with Dario Amodei over a private dinner. While Amodei advocates for industry safeguards, Trump has been resistant to imposing strict regulations. Trump dismissed some concerns as exaggerated and expressed interest in forming a federal AI task force.

Some attendees, including Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, were at last week’s state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting included discussions on limiting AI development speed to manage risks. However, Jensen Huang believes such restrictions might hinder the U.S.’s competitive edge over China.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune will not attend the White House meeting but expects productive discussions later in the week. Thune met with Amodei at the Capitol and noted additional meetings will take place in Washington.

A separate event in Washington will occur on the same day, featuring AI discussions. President Trump will offer remarks and reveal plans for a new federal government online portal. Observers await the outcomes of these critical discussions affecting the future of AI technology.
