A Political Action Committee (PAC) linked to the wind and solar energy sector has invested $1.1 million to support a Republican primary challenger to Chip Roy, an opponent of renewable energy. The group now aims to support allies within the Republican Party. They focus on maintaining supporters in various regions, including Iowa.
Renewable energy investors projected a victory message on the Energy Department building in Washington, D.C., celebrating Representative Chip Roy’s defeat in Texas. This occurred after the group spent over $1 million to defeat one of the leading critics of renewable energy in the U.S.
Currently, the investors report having $15 million for political activities. Their plan includes assisting Republicans who favor wind and solar energy initiatives in congressional positions. The goal is to establish a clean-energy-oriented majority, explained Thomas Matzzie, head of the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC.
The financial backing for this organization comes from renewable energy developers and benefactors like Chris Larsen, co-founder of the cryptocurrency platform Ripple. Recently, they celebrated Chip Roy’s loss, as he was defeated in a runoff election for Texas attorney general. Roy had been a significant critic, leading efforts to dismantle tax incentives for renewable energy initiatives during the Biden administration.
Mayes Middleton, the state senator who overtook Roy, criticized him for not showing enough loyalty to former President Trump. The renewable energy PAC supported these claims, spending $1.1 million on advertisements that highlighted Roy’s disagreements with Trump, questioning his alignment with MAGA principles.
