Thomas and Alito Dissent as Supreme Court Blocks Florida Lawsuit Against California

Justice Clarence Thomas, joined by Justice Samuel Alito, issued a dissenting opinion on Tuesday as the Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by Florida against California. Florida alleged that California issued commercial truck driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.

The lawsuit stemmed from a tragic accident last year in Florida. A truck driven by Harjinder Singh, an Indian national, resulted in three fatalities. Florida claimed Singh lacked legal status in the United States and accused California and Washington of improperly issuing him licenses. Singh is also facing criminal charges related to the incident.

This Court declines to even hear Florida’s claims, even though it has nowhere else to bring them. Because I would allow Florida to file its complaint, I respectfully dissent,” Thomas wrote in his opinion, included in the Supreme Court’s order list on Sunday.

The case is ongoing and more details will be provided as the story develops.
