Félicien Kabuga, Accused Financier of Rwandan Genocide, Dies at 90

Félicien Kabuga, a prominent business figure from Rwanda, passed away on May 16 in The Hague. At the time of his death, he was believed to be at least 90 years old. Kabuga had been on the run for several decades under allegations of funding the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Kabuga, an ethnic Hutu, gained notoriety for his role in allegedly providing financial support and weapons to militias. These groups were implicated in the massacre of more than 800,000 individuals, predominantly ethnic Tutsis, along with moderate Hutus during the catastrophic events of 1994.

In recent years, Kabuga faced indictment on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity. His capture and subsequent legal proceedings took place after years of international pursuit aimed at bringing justice for the atrocities committed.
