Batteries Transforming Renewable Energy

California Flats spans 2,900 acres in central California and is equipped with solar panels. The additional energy produced by these panels is directly stored in on-site batteries.

For years, renewable energy firms have struggled with storing the large quantities of energy they generate for future needs. Batteries present a viable solution. In California, there is now sufficient grid-scale battery storage to supply power to millions of homes for several hours.

Battery power frequently becomes the second largest energy source during the day in the state. This rapid tech growth is explored further by Cooper Katz McKim, a producer from The Indicator from Planet Money.
