The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards take place Monday night. Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, best known for her role in Law & Order: SVU, the ceremony will air live on NBC and Peacock at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. E! will also provide pre-show coverage starting at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT.

The Expanded Emmy Ceremony

This year, the Television Academy expanded what was once the Creative Arts Emmys into a two-night event. This new format highlights various sectors including casting, guest actors, game shows, and documentaries, among others. Recently, Rob Reiner received a posthumous Emmy for his guest appearance on The Bear, marking his third win. Mariska Hargitay, Monday’s host, won two awards for My Mom Jayne. The main event will present 19 awards, covering categories like top comedy series, top drama series, and best actor and actress.

Nominees to Watch

This year’s nominees for top comedy series include Hacks, Abbott Elementary, and The Bear, joined by newcomers Widow’s Bay and Margo’s Got Money Troubles. In the drama category, last year’s winner The Pitt competes against Pluribus, Slow Horses, and The Diplomat. Notably, several actors from The Pitt received their first nominations, along with Dale Dickey and Kate O’Flynn from Widow’s Bay. Nominees can be viewed along with insights from NPR critics.
