Macklemore Removed from Ed Sheeran’s Stadium Tour Over Political Speeches

Macklemore faced backlash for incorporating pro-Palestinian messages during Ed Sheeran’s U.S. stadium tour. His speeches and performances at MetLife Stadium led to venue refusals, culminating in his removal from the tour.

Macklemore noticed pushback after performing at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The rapper wore a keffiyeh, displayed footage of Gaza’s destruction, played ‘Hind’s Hall,’ and led chants of ‘Free Palestine.’ His song accuses Israel of genocide.

Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium, barred Macklemore from performing, citing a history of anti-Semitic rhetoric. Gillette Stadium sought to prevent hate speech exposure, stating Macklemore’s recent actions hurt the Jewish community. Kraft’s statement stressed promoting peace without compromising Jewish safety.

Messina Touring Group confirmed Macklemore’s exclusion from remaining shows when venues refused his participation. Most of the tour’s stops were planned for NFL stadiums.

Macklemore’s reputation includes past controversies, like a Seattle performance in 2014 criticized for anti-Jewish caricature. Critics condemned ‘Hind’s Hall,’ claiming the rapper focused on blaming Israel while ignoring Hamas’s terrorist actions.

Kraft, who founded the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, critiqued Macklemore’s selective conflict portrayal. He emphasized that advocacy for Palestinian suffering should not neglect Jewish community impact or Hamas’s role. Kraft expressed willingness to discuss the conflict with Macklemore for mutual peace goals.

Macklemore defended his position, stating venue operators and Kraft caused his tour removal. He denied accusations of promoting hate speech, accepting losing the tour spot for his beliefs.
