The 2026 Buffalo Grove Days Parade unfolded under overcast skies with temperatures nearing 80 degrees. The parade route led participants to Mike Rylko Community Park. Held on September 5, the parade featured about 60 units, each adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the day.
Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band: A Milestone Celebration
This year’s grand marshal was the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band (BGSB), celebrating 25 years of musical excellence. Founding Music Director Howard Green, having recently retired, took a moment to wave a conductor’s baton in his debut parade appearance. He expressed pride in the orchestra’s growth over the years.
The BGSB is now searching for a new music director, marking the end of Green’s impactful tenure. Green joyfully remarked, “It’s the first time in my life that I’ve done something like this.”
Buffalo Grove Days: A Five-Day Festivity
The Village of Buffalo Grove and the Buffalo Grove Park District organized this free event starting Thursday, September 3, through Labor Day, September 7. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including games, a carnival, music, and bingo. Michael Terson of the Park District highlighted the excellent food and beverage offerings and an unmissable musical lineup.
Family Traditions on Parade
The Kim family from Buffalo Grove views the parade as a cherished tradition. James Kim, an alumnus of Adlai E. Stevenson High School, reflected on his childhood experiences and joy in sharing these moments with his children, Chloe and Celine. He praised the safety and quality of life in Lake County.
Celebrating Community Achievements
The Buffalo Grove Community Pageant 2026 featured Little Miss Avni Aggarwal, Junior Miss Diya Mathan, and Teen Miss Reha Sachdev. Miss Buffalo Grove Saachi Churiwala, a junior at Adlai E. Stevenson High School, expressed gratitude for the supportive community and schools in Lake County.
The event also spotlighted the Buffalo Grove Police Therapy Dog, Grady, who engaged with the crowd, providing joy to families like the Griffels. Opportunities for personal interactions with first responders and community group representatives were abundant.

Buffalo Grove Village President and Mayor Eric Smith participated, emphasizing the parade as a beloved Labor Day tradition. Smith voiced his affection for the community, stating, “I love Buffalo Grove.”
