Grand Canyon Flash Flood Leaves Over 20 People Missing

The National Park Service has called for information from those who might have been hiking or backpacking in areas of the Grand Canyon National Park affected by a severe flash flood. Park officials reported on Sunday that the flood, deemed ‘significant’, has resulted in over 20 people potentially missing or unaccounted for.

The flash flood struck parts of the park, leading to the destruction of a footbridge along Bright Angel Creek. Remnants of stone bridge pylons remain visible, as captured by J. Thompson from the National Park Service. This has prompted concerns for the safety of visitors in the park.

Park authorities urge anyone who was in the park, especially those who had campground reservations, to come forward with information. This is crucial to assist in identifying individuals who may have been impacted by the flood. Officials stress the importance of this information in ensuring the safety and accountability of all park visitors.
