USS Theodore Roosevelt Deployment to Middle East

Deployment of USS Theodore Roosevelt

The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is set to deploy to the Middle East soon, replacing another carrier as the U.S. continues its naval blockade efforts in the Arabian Sea.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt and its strike group will depart San Diego for a mission exceeding seven months in the U.S. Central Command theater, taking over from USS George Washington, as reported by USNI News.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Pacific Fleet told The Hill that the Navy maintains a policy of not discussing future operations due to security concerns.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle acknowledged ongoing conflict and the need for an extension process to provide clearer planning for deployments.

“We do these extensions in little chunks, and the families don’t see any endpoint so they can plan their own lives,” Caudle added. “That creates a lot of stress for sailors.”

USS George Washington recently arrived in the Middle East, replacing the USS Abraham Lincoln, which is now en route to Thailand.

More than 20 U.S. warships continue to enforce the blockade in the Arabian Sea. Since reinstating the blockade last month, Centcom has redirected 75 commercial vessels, disabled 3, and boarded 2 to ensure compliance.
